Implementing Time-Based execution lock for Application processes

Hello Team,

To control and restrict when an application process can be executed, we need to implement a time-based execution lock. This mechanism will allow the process to run only within a specified time window, ensuring it is executed only during designated periods.

1. Define Time Window: Set up start and end times during which the application process can be executed.
2. Lock Implementation: Develop a locking mechanism that enforces the execution constraints based on the defined time window.

Thanks for your response. We have tried this solution in UCD but seems like this wont solve the purpose as per our requirement.

    • Applying the Blackout is blocking the deployment in given timeslot but it blocks deployments completely between start and end time of given dates. For eg. If we give start time of today and end time of 1 year, it’s blocking all deployments for the entire year.
    • With the solution provided, we would need to add 2 blackout for each day per application per environment which is not feasible manually. For eg. To add blackout for an year, we need to add 730 entries per environment in UCD per application and need to repeat the same for all other application environments. Also, managing these would be difficult.
    • We are looking for a solution to block specific window recursively everyday between given days which can be scheduled once.
    • Also, please let us know if any API available for setting/managing blackouts.

Thank you for submitting this Idea. IBM DevOps Deploy (or UrbanCode Deploy) has a built in mechanism called 'black out windows' that you can setup for an environment. To see this, follow these steps:

    1. Go to Applications tab in the web console for DevOps Deploy

    2. Click on your environment where you want to restrict the deployments (e.g. PROD)

    3. Click on the Calendar sub-tab

    4. Click on the 'Add Blackout' button

      1. This. will allow you to create a blackout. Provide a name for the blackout window.

      2. Select a start date and start time

      3. Select a end date and end time

      4. Click Save

Will this mechanism help you achieve what you are looking for? Please let us know.
