ship 32bit libraries with 64bit ClearCase installations

We have multiple deployments of 32bit Perl insterpreter installations with the CtCmd binding rolled out. If we switch to ClearCase 9.0.1 and 64bit (as it is today in 9.0.1.0), these existing deployments will cease to work.
We are wondering whether it would be possible to ship in the 64bit variant both sets of libraries (.../shlib/libatria*.so), e.g. like this:
/opt/rational/clearcase/shlib/... - the 32bit libs (as in the previous 8.0.x versions)
/opt/rational/clearcase/shlib64/... - the 64bit libs
This would allow the existing Perl bindings to continue working, while enabling 64bit and future bindings using the 64bit libs in shlib64.
The ClearCase binaries would be 64bit only, and linked to the .../shlib64/libatria*.so 64bit shared objects. The .../shlib/... 32bit shared objects would be there only for backward compatibility.
Of course, to benefit from the 64bit address space, performance etc, we are going to build new Perl interpreters in 64bit, with the CtCmd binding and ClearCase also in 64bit - but we cannot exchange the existing Perl interpreters and all the scripts that are in productive use today.
