Headline: Proxy server to access Installation Manager repositories

Due to the fact that WebSphere v9.0 is no longer delivered via SMP/E, the Installation Manager needs to download the software components from a cloud-based repository.

Because our z/OS system runs behind a firewall, the download fails miserably ;-). After adding a rule to allow the requested url, a second url was accessed and also failed. The next attempt caused a third url to fail...

A first alternative would be to specify a firewall rule allowing "*.ibm.com". However, this goes against company policy.

A second alternative would be to specify a proxy server outside of the firewall. Unfortunately, we don't have one. In view of the red tape involved to get a proxy up and running - not mention the considerable chance of an internal request being rejected - I'd like to ask IBM to consider providing a single point of entry to service an Installation Manager's request to download product components from a repository url. This would also be of value to other customers facing the same issue.

Please also refer to PMR 42637,211,788 "Error message when retrieving repository for WAS v9r0".

Kind regards,
Norman Ouwerkerk
