Why is it useful?

Due to it being sensitve information (aka a password). This would  prevent sensitive information from being exposed or copied.

Who would benefit from it?

All users and administrators using the system.

How should it work?

This obfuscation typically involves replacing the actual characters of a password/secret with symbols like asterisks (*) or bullets (•) as the user types or when the password is displayed in a field.
