This is an IBM Automation portal for Cloud Platform products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Our application developers are mandated to upgrade from Apache Struts 2.5.x to 6.3 due to end-of-support for 2.5 in April 2024. Struts 6.3 requires Servlet API 3.1 or later. WAS 8.5.5 only supports Servlet API 3.0. A very large number of the affected applications run on WAS 8.5.5 in our environments and migrating them to WAS 9 or Liberty in the given time to end-of-support (we do not run WAS 9 in our shop and are just beginning to migrate applications from tWAS to Liberty). We would like IBM to consider releasing an 8.5.5 fixpack with Servlet API 3.1. Thanks!

WebSphere Application Server 9.0.5 includes support for the full Java EE 7 programming model, including Servlet 3.1. It would not be possible to provide Servlet 3.1 in 8.5.5 without forcing an application and configuration migration or without breaking backward compatibility. As a result customers wanting Servlet 3.1 should be planning a migration of those applications to WebSphere traditional 9.0.5 or Liberty both of which provide the Servlet 3.1 programming model. Documentation about Servlet 3.1 in WebSphere traditional 9.0.5 is here. If you would like to discuss this decision further, please contact Graham Charters <charters@uk.ibm.com>.
