It is possible to get this information from the ServerInfo MBean via the getLibertyVersion, getJavaSpecVersion and getJavaRuntimeVersion methods. The Javadoc is available here.
This is a really useful feature to have. It is present in WAS ND and is highly useful for tracking version information in a large estate. In particular where a subset of the environments are subject to compliance and security requirements (e.g. PCI) it provides an efficient mechanism to ensure and demonstrate to auditors that patching and security fixes have been applied.
