The goal of this RFE is to improve the Group Security features description and usage in Synergy
1) Confusing information
a) On the 2 following links the Read Security indicates:
--> http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSRNYG_7.2.1/com.ibm.rational.synergy.manage.doc/topics/sc_r_h_groups_command.html?cp=SSRNYG_7.2.1%2F4-0-3-1-1-2&lang=en
--> http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSRNYG_7.2.1/com.ibm.rational.synergy.admin.doc/topics/s_c_ag_db_read_security.html?cp=SSRNYG_7.2.1&lang=en
###
Read security applies to source objects which can be versioned, and does not apply to directories and projects.
###
b) On the following webpage, you can see the following information:
http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSRNYG_7.2.1/com.ibm.rational.synergy.manage.doc/topics/sc_t_h_assign_groups_to_objects.html?cp=SSRNYG_7.2.1&lang=en
###
Adding the group_name:readsource restriction to a project causes new files in the project to inherit that access restriction from that point forward.
###
This second information in point "b" is confusing as you seem to apply a Read Security, group_name:readsource, on a project, although in point "a", it is specified that there is no Read Security on a project.
=> A better description should be provided making it clear that there is a new feature on the projects' security.
This new feature, described as the "Project Members' source security" in the GUI, once applied on the projects, has the following effect:
-It will add the Read Security on any new objects added to the project (except on objects with the type "project" and "dir").
-It will not add the Read Security on the existing project members
A screenshot of the project's Security tab showing the "Project Members' source security" would greatly help.
2) Missing Group Security and DCM information:
If the user who does the DCM Generate is not in the Group where the Read-Only security is set, then the objects with this Read-Only security cannot be accessed by the user doing the DCM Generate.
=> So the objects are not added to the DCM PAckage.
However the entries for these objects are still in the project.
When the project is received, as the objects with Read-Only securities are missing, you only see the empty entries:
=> meaning you see Red Exclamation marks for these objects.
The Group Security features in the Synergy Help does not describe this behavior.
This following information should be added to the Group Security features too:
-In order to transfer objects (with DCM) which are set with Read Security restrictions, the user doing the DCM Generate should belong to the Read Security Group(s), applied to the objects to transfer.
Of course this user must also have dcm_mgr roles.
And the receive must still be done with a user having the ccm_admin role.
3) Scattered information:
As you can see with the different links in point "1", there are several web pages in the Help describing pieces of the Group Security features.
These web pages are scattered in different chapters of the Synergy Help.
And as you can see in point "2", some information about the Group Security feature with DCM are missing.
=> It would be great to have a single chapter in the Synergy Help, describing all the different options of the Group Security feature.
