This is an IBM Automation portal for Cloud Platform products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Class diagrams allow the user to move attributes & operations from one
class to another. If this is done (e.g. to promote an operation from a
class to its parent class), the tool hangs. The Move Element dialog box
is displayed and reports "Performing changes..." with a progress bar
that stalls at about 90% complete. Task Manager then has to be used to
terminate RSART.
The user believes he ran Load UML Models prior to attempting the move.
I attached a task trace the user made before killing the tool and
restarting.
The tool should not hang in these circumstances. Additionally, is
there an option to promote a function into a parent class via right
click, similar to how we can redefine an operation from a parent class
into a derived class?
From IBM:
"This is an ER for a new feature that would allow moving attributes and
operations between classes in an easier way that does not involve
refactoring"
From me:
The ability is already there and usually works. It sometimes crashes
the
tool, hence the PMR. Is this still an enhancement request? I consider
a
defect existing functionality that is broken, but if development
disagrees
I will open an RFE. Let me know, thanks!
From IBM:
Yes, make RFE.
Refer to PMR for attached dump files.

We plan to add a "Promote" command to the context menu of an operation shown in the Operations tab in the Properties view. This will make it easier to promote an operation from a subclass to a superclass. We already support this for some other elements, such as states.
Currently planned for 8.5.1 CP2. Note that the issue with the hanging is a defect and is not tracked as part of this RFE.
Status from Jim Burke indicates this will be part of 8.5.1 CP2.
